Don’t forget that Stannis is a capable, proven warlord. He smashed the Greyjoy fleet, survived the siege of Storm’s End, and invested Dragonstone. If there’s one thing he knows — and it may only be the one thing, admittedly — it’s how to win battles. That said, it’s possible Asha put him up to it, sure, but she’s hardly in a position to send the message, unless she were to somehow get ahold of the ravens, a maester to tell her which one goes to Castle Black, pink sealing wax, and something to write with in the chaos of some battle we haven’t yet seen. Stannis would have to be the one to give the go-ahead.
